Ministry of Railways has signed pact with Madame Tussauds Wax Museum to foster tourism

National Rail Museum (NRM) has signed pact with Madame Tussauds Wax Museum (MTWM) to foster tourism in Delhi NCR. It is first time ever public-private museum collaboration that shall attract more tourists to both NRM and MTWM.

ISRO’s heaviest and most advanced high throughput communication satellite ‘GSAT-11’ was successfully launched by an European Ariane-5 vehicle rocket from Guiana Space Centre at Kourou.


Union Cabinet approves implementation of Shahpurkandi Dam on river Ravi in Punjab

Union Cabinet has approved implementation of Shahpurkandi Dam Project on river Ravi in Punjab. It also has approved central assistance of Rs. 485.38 crore (for irrigation component) over five years period from 2019 to 2023. The project will be implemented by Punjab Government with central assistance. It will be completed by June 2022.


Luxembourg become the world’s first country to make all its public transport free by 2019

Luxembourg is set to become the first country in the world to make all its public transport free by 2019. The move is aimed at addressing environmental issues and the problem of traffic congestion. Earlier, Luxembourg introduced free transport for all people under the age of 20.


Delhi government has launched ‘Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana’ for senior citizens

The Delhi government has recently launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana’ for senior citizens, which offers free travel packages on five religious circuits for senior citizens from the national capital. Under the scheme, any resident of Delhi above 60 years of age will be eligible for the scheme and those above 70 years can have one attendant.  It will be given out on first-come-first-served basis.


RBI to introduce Ombudsman Scheme for Digital Transactions

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced to introduce ‘Ombudsman Scheme for Digital Transactions’ to provide cost-free mechanism to redress grievances of customers related to digital transactions. The scheme will be notified by end of January 2019.

Kashmiri writer Mushtaq Ahmad Tantray bags Sahitya Academy Award

Prominent Kashmiri short-story writer and eminent broadcaster Mushtaq Ahmad Tantray bagged this year’s Sahitya Academy Award for his collection of short stories “AAKH’’. Tantray is presently posted as Head of the Regional News Unit at Radio Kashmir Srinagar. “AAKH” is a collection of eighteen short-stories.


OPEC set to meet in Vienna

The members of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and other oil-producing countries are scheduled to meet in Vienna to discuss ways to manage the oil output, supply glut and demand slowdown.


Noted agriculturalist Jayaraman passes away

Noted agriculturalist Jayaraman, who pioneered the protection and propagation of indigenous paddy varieties in Tamil Nadu, passed away in Chennai. His diligent work in the field of protecting the gene prototypes of indigenous paddy varieties won him the National Award in 2015 and a state award in 2011.


India’s longest rail-road bridge ‘Bogibeel Bridge’ has built over Brahmaputra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the India’s longest rail-road bridge – Bogibeel Bridge on December 25, which is also marked as the Good Governance Day (GGD). The 4.94 km long bridge connects the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra & falls in the eastern part of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Delhi Daredevils renamed as Delhi Capitals in 2019 IPL season

India third largest contributor to carbon emission

Global carbon emissions are set to hit an all-time high of 37.1 billion tonnes of CO2 in 2018, according to researchers at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and the Global Carbon Project. India, the third-highest contributor, is projected to see emissions rise by 6.3% from 2017.


Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani approves Rs. 50 crore STI fund

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has approved 50-crore rupees to Science & Technology Innovation (STI) fund to provide assistance up to Rs. 50-lakh to UGC and AICTE recognized central and state universities and colleges. Gujarat Government had earlier announced similar assistance under the Biotechnology Policy and IT Policy.


Salman, Akshay among world’s 100 top-paid celebrities

Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan are among the world’s 100 highest-paid entertainers, according to a Forbes list topped by American boxer Floyd Mayweather. Akshay is ranked 76th while Salman is ranked 82nd in the Forbes list of the World’s Highest Paid Celebrities 2018.



Government inks Agreement with ADB for Odisha Skill Development Project

Union Government (Ministry of Finance) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed $85 million loan agreement for Odisha Skill Development Project. It aims to improve the skill development eco-system in Odisha and establish World Skill Center (WSC), an advanced skill training center in state capital Bhubaneswar.


European Central Bank has launched TIPS an Instant Payment System

The European Central Bank launched a new system aimed at letting banks settle payments instantly across Europe, helping them to compete with PayPal and other global tech giants. Developed in just over a year, the ECB’s TARGET Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS) system will let people and companies in Europe transfer euros to each other within seconds and regardless of the opening hours of their local bank. TIPS is open only to providers that have an account at a central bank connected to the euro zone’s TARGET 2 network, meaning it is effectively restricted to European Union banks.


Jon Ridgeon was sworn in as the CEO of IAAF

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced the appointment of Jon Ridgeon as its new CEO following approval by the IAAF Council on the first day of its 215th Council Meeting in Monaco. Ridgeon will take up the new role in March 2019.


Delhi Environment minister has been awarded the ‘Hero to Animals’ award by PETA

Imran Hussain, the Delhi Environment minister, has been awarded the ‘Hero to Animals’ award by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India for banning the Chinese manjha (glass-coated kite strings) in the national capital in 2017. He received a award for saving the lives of humans and animals by banning all forms of manja throughout the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

George HW Bush became 41st president of the United States in 1989 after serving as vice-president under Ronald Reagan. His son, George W. Bush was also elected president and served two terms between 2001 and 2009.


Eliud Kipchoge and Caterine Ibarguen have been named male and female world athletes 2018

Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge and Colombian long & triple jumper Caterine Ibarguen have been named male and female world athletes of the year at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018. The pair were honoured by the IAAF at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.


Qatar is the world’s biggest supplier of LNG

Qatar’s pure strength is the production of Gas. Qatar is the world’s biggest supplier of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), producing almost 30 percent of the world total. Qatar also shares the world’s largest known natural gas field, the ‘North Field’ with Iran.

Delhi government launched One card for ease of commute on metro, buses

Delhi government announced the launch of a common mobility card called ‘One’, with a tagline of ‘One Delhi One Ride’, for the easy commute on public transport. It was launched by Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) managing director Mangu Singh.
